I produce wheel thrown porcelain tea and tableware designed to "invite use". My work is full of visual delight, and should give pleasure to the user. It represents a combination of cultures, styles and traditions, with inspiration coming from both oriental ceramics, and traditional European porcelain.

The ritual of the Japanese tea ceremony fascinates me; the concept of making the action of drinking into an intimate and contemplative act is something I wish to portray. During the ceremony every movement, action and object is significant. I would like to re-ignite that feeling of treasuring the utensils through my own work. My objects are made to be integrated into daily life, while creating a feeling of "specialness".

The style of Oribe ware has directly influenced my work. The warped and distorted forms exude a rich honesty of making, which I wish my work to show. I alter forms whilst still in motion on the wheel, I leave grooves, ripples and finger marks visible, so the communication between user and maker is apparent.

The highly decorated surfaces of European porcelain tableware, "ornate and precious" continue to provide a wealth of inspiration to me. The decorative surface is a visual feast. I have chosen to use precious materials such as porcelain, gold lustre, mother of pearl and enamels to create objects which as well as being utilitarian are to be treasured: Objects made to entice, delight, involve. And bring joy to the user.
